Shame on me! Seems like $15k will get you something running, $20k will get you something clean, and $25k will get you a showroom piece. Damn, I hope these don’t appreciate this decade. Who am I kidding, I know in less than two years all these prices will be $5k higher. Hopefully everyone keeps looking at the Japanese sportscars and forget about these the way I did.
EPA ratings are supposedly 19 city and 28 highway and 0-60 in 3.9s. Well shit, forget the Stingray, who needs a nice interior when you’re going to rip it out anyways?

Oh no...I know about these. I’m just smart enough to know how fast that’ll land me in jail to look past then

It just occurred to me these are the Vettes of my childhood! I remember all the old guys driving them, so I can’t imagine them as performance cars. But now I’m realizing I have a ton of nostalgia for them. I hope I make some money...

If I ever convince Mrs. Something-Clever-Here that I can get a track toy, this will be it.

Forgetting things like this is why I think I can get a decent Viper in the coming year or two.

Mmm, that’s the car I learned to drive manual (with syncros). Plenty of low end torque so even stop-and-go stuff isn’t awful.
My brother in law and I also fit at least 9 bags of groceries and a set of golf clubs in it. Very practical car.

The C5 Z06 is the reason I “eh....nah” every 996, Terminator, E46 M3, E55 AMG, used Coyote and every other insanely affordable performance vehicle in the $15-20k range. If you allow yourself $18-20k you can get a mint example with low miles.
I look at these on Autotrader and Craigslist all of the time.
Bone stock they’ll pull a G on the skidpad, can dip into the 11 with the right driver, deliver about 30mpg highway and come with the maintenance costs of a comporable year Silverado. If you have a basic tool set, a jack and some stands you’re all set.
They also have a MASSIVE community via sites like LS1tech and a killer aftermarket. I look at it as the ultimate budget “supercar”. Here’s a drag Zed Oh for your time.

I DD’d one of these for a while that I found for $14k, but it had 80,000 miles. My drive is about 90 miles/day of mixed city downtown and highway, and it was pure bliss, as long as you don’t mind the 90's styled GM interior. Excellent cruiser.
And an even better bruiser. Seriously...Give that LS6 a chance to get to it’s 6500RPM redline, and things start moving at warp speed. Hammer another gear (and I mean hard), wait for the traction control to stop cutting power, and hang on. Just don’t turn the traction management system off and expect it to not be a handful.

Are you sure that was a zo6 ? If i remember correctly, the Zo6 didn't have the clamshell rear trunk

I’d also like to ad they can be lowered for FREE and that every panel (sans the roof) can be unbolted and swapped out. This means if you find one on the cheap with a gashed up rear quarter, that’s okay because it can be unbolted like the front fenders can. The OEM catback is also titanium, which is cool because well... Titanium.
Also.. If you get stupid with the nitrous or boost, any old 4.8 or 5.3 in the scrap yard will swap right in place of the LS6 for dirt cheap. Try that with a Porsche or Bimmer.

I really like the way these look... from the outside.
If I got one I think I’d have to spend a couple grand making the interior less, um, 90s GM.

O_o
Very positive. There’s that shelf thingy behind the seats and a regular trunk.

I feel like one of these is a reasonable next step up from the 350Z, but having never sat in one I’m a little concerned about just how bad the interior quality may be... if it’s anything like my boss’s 2001 Trans Am, I’m out.

Best decision I made was picking up one of these for track duty. Got an ‘02 C5Z with 34k miles for $18k last April. Blue with 2 tone Black/Red interior.
